Dr. Letting is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in a Christian family and trusted Christ alone as his Savior in June of 1968, one day before he graduated from high school. From that point on he never had doubts about being part of God’s family because he believed what the Bible said about the eternal salvation that was freely given to all who trust in Christ.
During 1969, he lived in Mexico as a missionary intern, learning Spanish and then serving on a mobile team that assisted hurting churches. One member of that team was Eudelia, a young lady from Harlingen, Texas, who quickly caught his attention. They married in 1971.
After serving on the team for one year, Dr. Letting volunteered and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1970. He spent the next ten years on active duty, stationed in Washington, D.C., Monterey, California, Turkey and then finally, Spain. He served as a Morse code operator, intel yeoman, and Russian linguist on fast attack submarines in the Mediterranean Sea.
In 1980, he decided to leave active duty and attend Philadelphia College of Bible (now Cairn University). From there he attended Capital Bible Seminary, earning two masters degrees in theology and Greek (MDiv and ThM). By then, the Lettings had three girls.
With his formal education finished, the Lettings joined Cadence International and returned to Spain for five years to minister to the American military by serving as Hospitality House Directors in a small town called Rota. After five years, they were reassigned to San Diego to work with the Chaplains at the Naval Base. In 1995, the Lord opened up the door for ministry as an adjunct professor at Southern California Seminary (SCS). By 1997 he was serving full time as the Director of the Spanish Bible Program and Professor.
As the years went by at SCS, the Lord allowed Dr. Letting to become more and more involved in the administration of the seminary as he continued his teaching. He was able to serve in areas such as accreditation compliance, assessment, undergraduate dean and strategic planning. During these years, SCS was a candidate with TRACS and he became highly involved in the full accreditation and re-affirmation process. In 2000, he retired from the Naval Reserves while also receiving his MA in Education and starting his Doctorate in Education (EdD), which he finished in 2004. He was appointed as Vice President of Academics soon after. Dr. Letting also served as interim President of San Diego Christian College for one year while they were searching for a permanent President. Being bi-lingual in Spanish, he was able to provide leadership and teach at the Branch Campus in Seville, Spain and establish several teaching sites in Southern California and northern Mexico.
After fourteen years at SCS, the Lettings made a big move to work at TRACS as Vice President of Institutional Compliance for a little over two years, at two different times. In between he worked at Liberty University and served as the Assistant Director of Assessment. Early 2012 found Dr. Letting moving again, this time to his current position as Vice President of Academic Affairs at Grace.
Dr. Letting has a deep passion to take quality biblical education to the pastors and ministry leaders of the nations. He has had the privilege of serving in over 40 countries, a good number of these since his time at Grace as Teaching Sites and student cohorts are getting established.
The Lettings have now been married for 45 years and are blessed with three daughters and four grandchildren. They attend First Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas.
