#166: When God Breaks Your Heart (Part 2)

June 3, 2022
Will the God Who Can Do Everything Do Anything for Me? Does He Care?

(Guest: Ed Underwood) When we are going through pain and suffering, we might wonder, “Will the God who can do everything do anything for me? Does He care?” In Part 1, Ed Underwood opens up about how he encountered God’s grace to overcome in the midst of faith-shattering circumstances. In Part 2 of “When God Breaks Your Heart,” he further shares how God increased his faith to overcome even when his situation seemed so far away from triumph.

Every person who suffers has perhaps asked this. For pastor Ed Underwood his biggest challenge came in the form of chronic leukemia. As his pain became unbearable, even after praying for healing, Ed’s heart was broken when he realized that the God who could do anything was not helping him.

Yet a revelation from God’s Word changed his heart and life forever. Ed Underwood, author of “When God Breaks Your Heart — Choosing Hope in the Midst of Faith-Shattering Circumstances,” details what God has taught him, that might help us in our own times of suffering.

Faith-Based Prayers in Times of Need

He shares how faith-based prayers, and being open and honest to God helped him greatly during those times. In Hebrews 4:14-16, it says we can come to the Throne of Grace in time of need. This is what gives us faith to overcome. It’s not a throne of reform or performance. We can make our request to God and ask Him what we need.

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let’s hold firmly to our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things just as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.” Hebrews 4:14-16 NASB
