Grace School of Theology Joins Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is considered as the National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM). The month is dedicated for organizations to highlight the importance of cybersecurity. Since 2004, it has been a strong collaboration between the government and private industries to raise awareness about digital security and to empower everyone to protect their personal data from various types of digital crime.

In its 19th year, the National Cybersecurity Alliance and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) have an overarching theme of “See Yourself In Cyber”. The theme emphasizes that although cybersecurity can seem like a daunting topic to the common folk, ultimately, cybersecurity is really all about people.

This month-long celebration focuses on the β€œpeople” part of cybersecurity, providing information and resources to help educate the public, and ensure that all individuals and organizations make smart cyber decisions whether on the job, at home or at school – now and in the future.

This month focuses on these four basic cybersecurity practices that any individual can practice may it be in their personal or professional work lives:

  1. Think Before You Click: Recognize and Report Phishing: If a link looks a little off, think before you click. It could be an attempt to get sensitive information or install malware.
  2. Update Your Software: Don’t delay — If you see a software update notification, act promptly. Better yet, turn on automatic updates.
  3. Use Strong Passwords: Use passwords that are long, unique, and randomly generated. Use password managers to generate and remember different, complex passwords for each of your accounts. A passwords manager will encrypt passwords securing them for you!
  4. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication: You need more than a password to protect your online accounts, and enabling MFA makes you significantly less likely to get hacked.

Join us as we aim to educate on how to successfully fight against malicious online activities here at Grace. This month watch for tips, polls, quizzes, and so much more as we learn together how to keep Grace and your personal data safe. Let us see ourselves as part of the solution.
