Principles of Biblical Interpretaton (Hermeneutics)
Join the Hermeneutics course from Grace School of Theology and study the principles of Biblical interpretation with guided practice in using those principles in interpreting representative passages.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

Discover the historical context of the Scripture passages and indicate how the context shapes our understanding of the Bible passage.

Identify the literary genre of any given passage of Scripture and demonstrate an ability to interpret that passage in a manner appropriate to the genre.

Analyze, select, and use appropriate Bible study tools.

Explain the meaning of any passage of Scripture – with discriminate analytic discernment to detect improper interpretations of Scripture.

Think and evaluate concepts in Bible study methodology by engaging in critical thinking about the course material.

Recognize and accomplish the chief goal of Bible study—to change lives by word and fall deeper in love with God.

About the Instructors

Dr. Mark “Dean” Haywood

Dr. Mark “Dean” Haywood has decades of proven excellence and experience in leading and teaching within the educational arena. As the Provost and Professor of Homiletics, Hermeneutics, and Bible Exposition at Grace School of Theology, he is committed to encouraging students and staff alike to continue to “see it through!” no matter the circumstance.
Dr. Fred Chay
Dr. Fred Chay
Dr. Chay has been in the ministry for more than 40 years. He has pastored churches in Arizona, California, and Texas and also served as the Western Director of the Christian Medical Association. He was a professor of Theological Studies at Phoenix Seminary and was the Director of the D.Min. program for over twenty years. He is the founder and president of Grace Line, a ministry devoted to motivating Christians toward maturity in their faith.
He is currently Dean of Doctoral Studies and Professor of Theological Studies at Grace School of Theology. He is also the Managing Editor of Grace Theology Press. He is the author of The Faith That Saves – The Nature of Faith in the New Testament, The Glorious Grace of God, Medical Ethics, and Suffering Successfully. He and his wife, Marsha, have two adult children and one grandchild.
