Pastor Affirms Studying at Grace as a Life-Changing Experience

In learning about theology and being well-equipped for ministry, discovering the right seminary that aligns with one’s values and aspirations is critical. For Pastor Christopher De Guzman, affectionately known as Tof, his remarkable journey at Grace School of Theology has been profoundly positive and transformative, impacting his ministry and Christian life. For him, Grace has proven to be an exceptional choice for his academic and spiritual development.

Holy Bible
Regardless of one’s theological background, Grace is remarkably accepting, forgiving, and filled with love. What resonates with me about Grace is its immense capacity for love.
Tof learned about Grace through a friend who was a student at the seminary. An unexpected encounter sparked his initial awareness of the institution, ultimately encouraging him to enroll.

Tof underscores the significance of the four A’s at Grace—attainability, accessibility, affordability, and accreditation—as crucial elements that set it apart from other seminaries. The flexibility to pursue courses at one’s own pace, the accessibility of online classes, and the affordability of tuition, all complemented by accreditation, make Grace a standout choice for him.

“The first time I set foot at Grace, I feel I belong.”

Initially, Tof grappled with the concept of Free Grace Theology as someone from a reformed background. However, his openness to new ideas and perspectives helped him integrate his beliefs with the newfound understanding of Free Grace Theology. Tof appreciates the emphasis on unearned and unlosable love, a central theme in Free Grace Theology, which resonated deeply with his spiritual convictions.

Another challenge he faced during his academic journey at Grace involved health issues exacerbated by the pandemic. Getting sick presented obstacles for him, especially during his Greek language class. However, Tof’s perseverance and the support from Grace’s faculty enabled him to overcome these challenges and realize his dream of graduating from the seminary.
“Regardless of one’s theological background, Grace is remarkably accepting, forgiving, and filled with love. What resonates with me about Grace is its immense capacity for love.”

Exposure to diverse cultures, Christian backgrounds, and various ministry experiences through discipleship classes broadened his perspectives. Tof acknowledges significant personal growth, becoming more open and accepting of different ministry approaches, worship styles, and cultural nuances.

“Grace profoundly impacted my life, significantly influencing my ministry and personal journey. I’ve experienced substantial personal growth, evolving as a pastor, student, and Christian in a broader sense.”
Tof enthusiastically encourages prospective seminary students to consider Grace. His positive endorsement is rooted in the genuine sense of community and Grace’s comprehensive teaching, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a high-quality theological education.
“I highly recommend Grace and have encouraged my friends to explore it.”
Tof’s ministry at Christian Home Baptist Church (CHBC) in Biñan, with a membership size of over 100 and around 70 regular attendees, presents unique challenges and victories. The biggest challenge has been the need for ministry workers and volunteers. However, the greatest victory for CHBC is its unwavering commitment to ministering and reaching out to the community despite numerous challenges. This October, CHBC will celebrate its 18th anniversary, marking nearly two decades of faithful service.
Having earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies MA (BS) at Grace and pursuing his Master of Divinity (MDiv), Tof praises Grace’s dedication to creating a conducive environment for learning more about God. In Tof’s experience, he discovered Grace as a center of academic excellence and a community that fosters personal and spiritual growth.
