In David’s search for a seminary to help him accomplish his goal, he came across Grace School of Theology. After listening to the advice of his Pastor and Dr. Mark Haywood, Provost of Grace, he enrolled in the Master of Divinity (MDiv) program of the school. By choosing this degree, he can further be equipped to interpret the Word of God through proper hermeneutical methods that aim to derive the intended meaning of a biblical text. Moreover, It can also prepare him to enter directly into a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) study. David got to accomplish his goals for his pastoral ministry and preaching work through the classes he is taking in his MDiv degree. He learned how to teach with life-changing impact and to effectively communicate relevant truth in the Scriptures through his Teaching for Impact class with Dr. Mark Haywood. The lessons shared in the class inspired him to constantly strive to be the best teacher who educates others on the Word of God.

David also considers his Soteriology class with Dr. Dave Anderson an eye-opening experience. He is amazed at the new understanding he learned about the doctrine of salvation—specifically the special attention given to the work of Christ, the nature and extent of His atonement, the terms of salvation, election and human responsibility, and the eternal security of the believer.

David also developed an appreciation for the freedom to proclaim the Gospel today when he studied Black Church History with Dr. Thomas Beavers and Dr. John Adolph. He says hearing and learning the heritage of our forefathers, who have paved the way for many African American preachers, is very impactful for him.

In time, David hopes to be able to finish his MDiv and be more equipped to share the love of Christ to others.
