Grace in Action

Shining the Light of God’s Love

Troubled youth, druggie, addict, and high were words that described Leo Taveras in the past. His transformation in Christ has made him almost unrecognizable from who he used to be as new words are now associated with him: sober, father, husband, leader, and preacher. Having experienced God’s deliverance from his dark past, Leo now brings light to those who need it.

Shining the Light of God's Love

It’s more than just salvation. God has a purpose for you and He wants to deliver you not only from the penalty of sin but from the power of sin. That’s something that Grace has taught me.

In 2015, Leo decided to pursue seminary, but he quickly discovered that most theology schools are expensive. Being a truck driver with a family to support, pursuing a degree became almost impossible.

“I kept digging and ran into Grace School of Theology. That name by itself drew me because I was a man who has tasted the grace of God. I learned that they have the lowest prices and I can do it online! It’s convenient,” Leo shares.

Leo is the founder and minister of Shine Light Ministries where he shares the gospel and teaches how one can be a disciple of Christ.

“Salvation is more than just God trying to get you to heaven. God is trying to bring heaven on earth so that we can enjoy this abundant life.”

He loves that Grace adheres to the truth of Scripture and keeps everything in context. Grace is equipping him, enhancing his thinking, and increasing his understanding in his exegesis so that when he ministers to people, he teaches the truth of God’s Word.

He is passionate about helping others experience the same deliverance he has experienced. “If God can do this in my life, He can do it for anybody,” says Leo. “He showed me this love, a love that I wasn’t used to. We’re used to ‘You love me, I love you back.’ God’s love is different. God says, ‘I love you,’ period.”
