Distance Learning Made Possible for a Student in Panama

Someone who wants to grow in their knowledge of the Scripture wouldn’t let any hurdle get in the way. This is what Master of Ministry (MM) graduate Juliette Bellance de Smith proved when she decided to pursue theological education at Grace School of Theology.

Thank you so much because studying at Grace was so eye-opening to see the riches of the Bible and also that God’s desire for us is that we live by grace, as we have been saved by it.
Juliette lives, works, and serves the Lord in the city of Panama. Her passion for continuous learning about God led her to Grace. One of the main reasons she chose the seminary is its blended education approach, wherein she can attend classes online. As a result, she doesn’t have to leave her home, work, and ministry to pursue theological education.
“I didn’t have to stop my ordinary life in Panama. I didn’t have to leave my ministry or quit my job to prepare for God’s word. This is amazing because I could connect to my classes and organize my life to do my homework and keep doing the same things as always.”

It is not just accessibility that Juliette factored in when choosing Grace. She also values its high-class, accredited education. According to her, there are a few institutions to study the Bible in Latin America, and most of them are not accredited. Thus, she is pleased to know that Grace is accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools and is a member of the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS). Although Grace has these accreditations, its tuition is still affordable. For Juliette, this means she doesn’t have to spend much of her money on schooling.

“Besides having an excellent education, Grace is accredited [and affordable], so that’s a big reason to keep studying in the seminary. I could pay for a high-class education from my home country.”

Juliette experienced quality education from her professors, who exhibited a passion for Jesus and encouraged her to go deeper in her spiritual life. Her two classes, The Basis of Free Grace Theology and Doctrine of Salvation by Dr. Ezequiel Serrato, impacted her life and ministry the most. She learned from her study about the depth of God’s grace based on the Scriptures. This made her more thankful for the salvation she received from Jesus.

She is also thankful to her professors for exhibiting grace during her trying times in the seminary. When she lost her first baby at 24 weeks, she found it hard to focus on study. Her professors reached out to her and provided the necessary support, which is, above anything else, what she needed during those times.
“I had a lot of homework to deliver, but I remember a professor that wrote to me and said sorry for what happened, prayed for me and told me to not worry about homework, that he could have flexibility so I can deliver those later. I think that was a huge relief that I could take my time and not lose the class.”
For Juliette, finishing her MM is quite challenging because of the requirements, readings, and classes to attend. Nonetheless, she is well-invested in her study and is ready to make the necessary sacrifices to attain her educational goals. Despite her situation and location, getting her MM is very much feasible and hence, attainable.
“Grace made it possible for people outside the US to have high-quality Bible education and learn more about God’s word without sacrificing daily lives.”
According to her, all her efforts are worth it with what she learned from Grace. She is forever thankful for her entire student experience in the seminary.
