Grace in Action

Exceptional Education with Extraordinary People

Myra Jalique is a missionary from San Jose, California who is now stationed in the Philippines. In order to effectively minister, Myra started pursuing a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies degree at Grace School of Theology. She was encouraged to enroll at Grace by her ministry friends and had no regrets since then as she quickly found herself engrossed in hermeneutics. Every lesson is a thrill and pleasure for her, particularly as each session allowed her the opportunity to meet other students from all around the globe through Grace’s online platform.

Exceptional Education with Extraordinary People
Every Grace student receives a high-quality education in which they dive deep and study hard to understand God’s Word. “I find myself burning the midnight oil frequently because I’m so engaged in my reading, studying, and writing my papers,” she admits. “And it has fostered my self-discipline. The most excellent part is that my studies allow me to come to know God better. I get to love Him more deeply and adore Him more passionately.”
Myra appreciates how Grace allows each student to be a scholar, making tuition more affordable for overseas students like her. Without her scholarship, she would not have been able to finance a seminary education. She wants to express her thanks to all Grace board members and donors: “You are laying up treasures in heaven, where your return on investment is eternal,” she said. “It’s all due to the education Grace offers for the other students and me, which touched many hearts and produced many followers of Christ.”

The fact that Grace’s seminary curriculum is ATS and TRACS-accredited is a fantastic asset for her and Grace’s students. “There are many Bible Colleges here in the Philippines, some of which are even sponsored by international organizations, but they are not TRACS-accredited.” she shares. This gives her confidence that her graduate studies will be recognized globally and transfer her credits to world-renowned colleges and seminaries.

She recalls completing a paper for Dr. Fred Chay’s Contemporary Moral Issues in Ministry course in which she discussed homosexuality in ministry. Her eyes were enlightened to the truth of how the problem has affected denominations worldwide due to her study. “I’ve learned to love the sinner rather than the sin itself. And it is only through God’s Grace that this is possible.”

In her thesis on Church Disciplinary for Dr. Ken Wilson’s Ecclesiology and Eschatology class, she acknowledges that it came at an ideal moment when her church required a discipline policy as reconciliation and restoration were necessary.

She also shares that Dr. Paul Fisher’s Crisis Counseling helped her look at Scriptures from a new perspective, allowing her to realize how Jesus dealt with the wounded more closely. The seminars made her more sensitive to struggling individuals around her, particularly those in the church. Dr. Fisher’s Foundations of a Christian Home course also enabled her to create a pre-marital counseling curriculum for their congregation.

Myra concludes recalling her memorable classes by sharing Dr. Dave Anderson’s ability to interact with his students as he genuinely desires for all of them to learn in his Soteriology class. Dr. Anderson’s profound yet simple teaching on Position and Condition, as well as the tenses of Salvation, were the most significant revelation she received in building her biblical foundation. She believes that all pastors and church leaders will grasp free grace theology if they understand these truths.

The truths and principles she was taught have stayed with her and transformed the way she studies, preaches, and teaches the Word of God. She advocates that Grace provides solid theology with practical implications in life and ministry. Although the professors are renowned scholars of God’s Word, she values them more so because of their approachability and sensitivity to the needs of the students.
From the librarian to the technology services team, Myra also appreciates how ready to respond and help the entire Grace staff is. With flexible and fast-track programs Grace offers, she didn’t feel like she was getting left behind when she took time off, especially during a time she needed a procedure. Before, during, and after her operation, her staff, students, and discipleship group members all reached out and prayed for her.
What makes Grace School of Theology exceptional? She confidently claims that it is because it is made up of extraordinary people. She recalls one student shipping books from the United States to the Philippines and another freely lending her a book on Kindle. Grace is a community of Christians who encourage one another and share their lives to live out their faith in God and Christ. In terms of discipleship, she has utilized resources from our student discipleship groups and the Grace Center for Spiritual Development to train their congregation’s young leaders. She has decided to pay it forward by also leading a Grace student discipleship group. Grace is a place where God’s grace is at work, and she thanks God for the chance to be one of its students.
