Grace in Action

Leading the Youth with the Love of Christ

“I believe in grace because that sets us apart from how the world thinks and operates,” says John Paul “JP” Kabuhat, a youth pastor in the Philippines and a Doctor of Ministry student at Grace School of Theology. He is reaching out to the younger generation because he wants them to see their worth through the lens of God’s Word. He believes it is critical for the church to introduce Christ to students while they are still forming their core beliefs. Studying at Grace provides him with an education that is grounded in grace and truth.

Leading the Youth with the Love of Christ

I believe in grace because that’s what sets us apart from how the world thinks and operates. I believe in grace because if I don’t, then what makes me a Christian?

“I preach almost on a weekly basis. I know full well that I would be held accountable by God in a stricter manner because I am teaching His Word. With that mindset of reverence to that strictness of how the Word should be preached, I began seeking further studies.”

With so many things to consider, including finances, family, ministry, and time, going to seminary can be daunting for someone like JP who is already deeply involved in ministry. Through Grace School of Theology’s accessible program, JP has found the flexibility he needs to become equipped in the Word without leaving everything behind.

“It was very convenient for me to be able to take my classes online so I could do ministry. At the same time, I also value how I don’t have to go to the campus in the US because that would cost a lot, not only in finances but also in relationships, in emotional stress, going to a different place without your family. With Grace’s online platform, there’s no disruption when it comes to how things flow both in ministry and family.”

The youth holds a special place in JP’s heart. He understands that raising up a new generation of spiritual leaders who can teach the love of Christ will have a significant impact in the future of his country. As a young leader himself, he seeks wisdom from God’s Word and also benefits from older, more experienced leaders in his classes at Grace.

“I’m enjoying my classes. I love the books and the discussions with the professors and my classmates. I’m at least a decade younger than the youngest person in our class so their perspectives are different. It’s a privilege because I came to learn and this is where I could learn the most – in the company of people who have learned more than me. I felt humbled to realize that I was mistaken in many things that I thought before were solid truth. That affects me now such that whenever I deliver a message, I would deliver it with humility.”
