By Tammy LaVon Adams

My name is Tammy Adams. I was born to teen parents who loved me and spent their young lives investing in me. They allowed me to go to church with older family members and friends.  Sadly, however, my parents were divorced by the time I was 5-years-old. Despite being raised in an underprivileged environment, I excelled in school. I wanted more, and the world was something I wanted to see.  I was my high school’s class president, finished 3rd in my class academically, and was a member of our school’s dance team and majorette team.  I was very popular and voted most likely to succeed. Upon completing high school, I joined the Army ROTC and I pursued my nursing degree.  In 1988, after 4 years of college, I was a Registered Nurse and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. The day after graduation, I was married.

I chose Grace School of Theology because of their message of Free Grace.  It matches my goal of giving love to the abandoned, unloved and unforgiven.  God’s grace has rescued me from many life challenges and restored my faith in loving life. His grace propels me to use the time I have left to support the church and minister to the world before His return. Today, my husband and I are rearing my four children who are now 24, 20, 17 and 14. I am working full-time in my community area hospital as a nursing supervisor and maternal child nurse. I am serving in my local church’s Women’s Mentoring ministry and multiple areas of our Health and Wellness ministry.

I love that Grace encourages its students to participate in a mentoring program, and promotes participation in the school’s vision and mission through their Student Ambassadors organization. As a minister and disciple of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, God placed in my heart a vision to develop a corresponding ministry in my own home life. In January 2014, I adopted a total of 12 family, friends, and co-workers who often call me for prayer and advice.  This year I am guiding them on a walk through the Scriptures via a 52-week study. This study has proven to be a blessing for each of them. They are forming a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and are being delivered from unhealthy lifestyles. Some have even begun attending church again. They have been able to see from my life and testimony that God is forever present in our life, “and knowing that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
